Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty

This patient is a woman in her fifties who wanted improvement of her eyelids. Two problems are apparent in her upper lids. First, the lower edge of the upper eyelids is too low and covers part of the pupils. This condition, called ptosis, interferes with vision as one tries to gaze upward. Second, there is excess, sagging skin on the upper eyelids. The lower eyelids also demonstrate prominent areas or "bags."

She underwent upper and lower blepharoplasty to correct the ptosis, excess skin, and bags..

Postoperatively, her grandson commented that her eyes looked more open. That is readily apparent on the anterior view. The lateral view shows the improvement in the contour of the lower lids. The postop photos were taken six weeks after surgery.

Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty

This patient is a woman in her early seventies whose vision was obstructed by her eyelids. When she tried to look up, the upper eyelids covered her pupils (a condition called ptosis). When she tried to look down, all she could see was the bags on the lower eyelids.

She underwent upper and lower blepharoplasty to correct the excess skin and bags. She also had repair of the ptosis.

The anterior views show that the lower edges (the margins) of the upper lids are much higher and no longer cover the pupils. A significant amount of upper eyelid skin was removed to accommodate raising the margins with the ptosis repair. As a result of the ptosis repair and upper blepharoplasty, the eyes look (and in reality are) much more open. The lateral view demonstrates the reduction in the bags of the lower eyelids.

Upper Blepharoplasty

This patient is a woman in her sixties who was bothered by redundant upper eyelid skin.

She underwent upper blepharoplasty in combination with a facelift.

The postoperative pictures show that the eyelids are much less heavy and that the eyes look much more open after surgery. The skin and contour of the cheeks is also improved, but that is due to the facelift.
